Hammocks offer you the ultimate form of relaxation, you may imagine rocking gently in the breeze relaxing between two trees on a dessert island. We lucky for you this form of relaxation is now available to you in your own back garden!
It's easy to create the same environment at home in your garden by purchasing your very own hammock. Types of hammock - You can purchase either a chair hammock which you can sit back and relax in or a lying hammock. The style you choose should be down to your own preferences. Chair hammocks cradle your body whilst you are in an upright position. The most popular sitting position is to lean back with your feet up or alternatively you can sit cross-legged and gently sway.
A spreader bar helps to maintain the chair shape and the rope of the chair can either be attached to a tree or to a chair hammock stand. Using a stand if much safer than using a tree. The advantage of using a chair hammock instead of a conventional hammock is that they take up far less space and also only require one support point. Fabric hammocks allow you to lie back and relax in your garden either alone or with a loved one. The fabric cradles your body and allows you to sway gently in the breeze. When buying a fabric hammock you must decide whether you want one with or without a spreader bar. A spreader bar will keep the hammock open like a bed instead of allow the fabric to wrap you in a cocoon.
Once you have made your decision on the spreader bar you then can make your choice on the type of stand you would like to use. If you do have two trees that are the correct distance apart (and this will vary depending on the size of hammock you buy) you can tie the hammock in between the two. However if like most people you do not you can use a hammock stand which can either be made of wood or metal. Both essentially do the same job but wooden hammock stand do look better but are more expensive. Types of Materials - Hammocks are available in cotton, polyester and canvas.
Cotton hammocks are by far the most comfortable but unfortunately this material is susceptible to mould and mildew. Cotton hammocks also tend to fade if left outdoor for a long time period. Polyester hammocks can be almost as comfortable as cotton ones and are far more durable. They also do not suffer in the same way from mould and mildew. This material is fade resistant so a polyester hammock can be left outdoors for long periods of time. Canvas hammocks are tough rugged hammocks that can be made partially from cotton, polyester or hemp and are the preferred choice of the Navy!
